Having not read this thread, this is simply not close. Philly has a downtown that can compete with any in the US except for NYC. Seattle is a nice city for sure and is a beautiful one, but is simply not on Philadelphia's level, and the global city index agrees.

Any city can dramatically boost their GDP with guaranteed federal spending growth. No one is, or should be, impressed by that. DC's success is completely owed to the rest of the country.

I live in the DC area. It's absolutely an anomaly compared to literally any other major city (and by that I mean cities that actually do something other than paper-shuffling). It's farcical that you're trying to draw some sort of apples-apples juxtaposition.

The skyline has transformed since One Liberty Place broke through.

Just a nitpick. It was not the late 80s. Ground was broken for Liberty Place I, which was designed to break the height limit, on May 13, 1985. It was completed in 1987.

A.Overall dealing with reality I Would rather live in Philly in large part due to its more centrally located location.Seattle is a great city and region though.

B.Of the 2 downtowns I would Rather live in Philly's downtown.

C. If all things were equal. I would rather live in the city of Seattle than Philly, Seattle is much healthier overall imo.

I've only been downtown for a few years and in just that few years major changes have already happened, and when I first moved in it was already awesome. And with all the game changing construction it is set to significantly change for the better in the next 5 years bare minimal in the worst case scenario, otherwise I see no reason especially with NYC to take from it's growth couldn't just accelerate effectively without bounds.

Chicago made itself a transportation hub which is always known to jump start economies. If Philly can recognize the importance of a 21st century high speed rail to DC / NYC it'll see yet another major jump forward.

Yes hopefully High Speed Trains do happen. A first on showing success. Would set the way for more. DC/NY seems like a good first.
