I haven't been to MOA in about 10 years, and WEM in even longer. But when I was very, very young (too young to remember), we lived just a few blocks from where WEM would eventually be built. I do remember going there shortly after it opened (I was probably 8 years old at the time), and was completely blown away. There was an indoor ice rink and a full-fledged (but smallish) amusement park inside the mall! A few years later they added the indoor waterpark, which easily rivals any outdoor waterpark I've been to. There was like 30 slides and a massive wave pool. The mall is so large there is (or at least was) two locations of the same dept. store at either end of the mall! (The Bay). Eventually they even added a casino (a real casino I believe, not one of these "slots only" casinos you find at racetracks), though I haven't been to the casino. They also added a hotel along with the casino.I haven't been to WEM in years, so I don't know what else they've added since then.I only went to MoA once, when I visited Minneapolis about 10 years ago. We went there at night. I saw the amusement park, but didn't go in it. By that time I had outgrown amusement parks anyways. We went there to go to a bowling alley/video arcade that was in a sort of entertainment area in the top floor (I think). There was a Hooters up there as well if I recall. Other than that it seemed like a larger version of any other mall. Though the rectangular layout makes it much easier to get around than WEM. WEM was built more piecemeal, with horizontal additions being added over time.MoA now has light rail, which WEM doesn't. I know there was talk about building Edmonton's LRT out to the west side of the city with a stop at the mall, but who knows when that will happen.

Thanks for your input!! I believe there both really close but MoA winning the game by a field goal in over time lol

For me i have more fun at Mall of America (Dont do any of the kid stuff) However i did enjoy the Casino at West Edmonton. However if i was a kid i would probably vote for West Edmonton

Haha yea thanks for voting. I noticed a argument between the two malls in the MoA vs KoP thread so thought we could continue that debate here

Why do you choose MoA? When is that last time you went to WEM? You must have only seen a small portion of WEM to choose MoA over it. MoA has light rail access, WEM's only public transit is buses. That is literally the ONLY advantage I saw to MoA personally.I don't see what the hype was over MoA, other than the fact that it has an amusement park. Even then it pales in comparison to a real amusement park like Six Flags. There was no waterpark, I didn't see a mini-golf (though maybe there is one), I don't remember a skating rink, submarine ride, casino, or hotel. MoA, at least when I went, was just a larger version of any other suburban mall with a little Snoopy amusement park in the centre.

I lived for four years in Edmonton as a little kid right near the West Edmonton Mall. I had to change buses to get to school at the transit center there. I've never been to MOA, so this isn't exactly fair of me, but I voted for WEM out of nostalgia.

I still have fond memories of waiting in line for a autograph session featuring every single player of the 1988 Stanley Cup winning Edmonton Oilers--the line for Gretzky stretched aboat a half mile. My brother was friend's with the head dolphin trainer at the aquarium so we always went on trips there(they've since got rid of the dolphins). They also had a ride with real submarines in the huge lagoon(complete with real fish unlike Disneyland) that they've gotten rid of as well. The best was going to the huge waterpark in the coldest months of winter. And I remember riding the Mindbender roller coaster as soon as I was tall enough--right after they reopened after closing it for about a year after a fatal accident.

Anyhow I'm sure they're comparable(considering they were both built by the same developers) and MOA is a little newer than WEM. Honestly, though if I returned to WEM today, it'd probably seem sort of cheesy compared to my childhood memories. I'm really not that into malls these days.

The answer is simple...better shopping. More upscale shopping i believe. I mean, that is what a mall is for..right? And I have never been to the WEM before. I'm sure all those attractions are cool to.

Even if alot of people outside of the USA don't know about the mall of America, that still applies to WEM as well. The numbers of visitors alone show me that more people know about the MOA thean WEM. I could be wrong, but the Visitors seem to say alot about the popularity of the two.
