Thanks for the input everybody, I'll do a little research on each of those cities.

Re: The climate, as the poster above me said, I love snow and cool weather, Boise is just too dry all year round. I'm the kind of person that is just plain happier in snowy, cold weather.

While I research all of the suggestions, can somebody possibly tell me of a good source to find information on Canadian cities? I'm having quite a hard time finding any information on Calgary.

Thanks again! All of your input is much appreciated!

Madison in Wisconsin might also fit the bill, though the winters can get more than just a bit more snowy.

A lot of suburbs and areas in America are like Boise; Sprawly, lack of character, low dense, everywhereville America. You shouldn't have any trouble.

Boise is one city I visited many times and out of a somewhat decent downtown and being close to the Sawtooths I would say that it is one boring characterless city.

No need to degrade the city, he was asking for something similar and maybe a city like Boise is just what some people are looking for. I think for the size of city it is, it's pretty cool!

I've always thought of Spokane as a close relative of Boise, ID, although I think Boise may have a more attractive downtown and city-center. Both similar in size and are close to beautiful western mountains.

I'd agree Spokane might be a good fit. More winter-like weather, and almost exactly same size. Downtown Spokane isn't quite as polished as Boise, but it is pretty impressive I'd say. Close to many lakes and ski hills too. Since the Spokane area borders Idaho, you could even stay in-state and still be a part of the metro. Winters are typically snowier there than the southern part of Idaho.

Spokane for sure. There are great Spokane vs. Boise threads in both forums too.

Maybe stay in Boise, and drive more often to McCall, Bogus Basin, or out towards Idaho City. However, to answer your question; probably the Denver area or Missoula, MT. Bozeman would be another suggestion as well as Jackson Hole, WY.

I have never been to Spokane, but I would imagine it's similar off of what I have heard and read.

Cities like Boise that have more snow could be Bend, Oregon (they say we only get 23" of snow a year, but the last few years we have gotten TONS) or Boulder, Colorado (90inches of snow a year). Maybe Flagstaff, AZ as well. All have great outdoor activities.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Reno!
