Murder Rate Rapes
Oakland- 22.0 64.9
Philly- 19.6 60.6
Atlanta 17.3 16.3 (wow thats Low)
Detroit 36.9 45.0
So they are comparable. Oakland is not way more dangerous than Philly.
All are higher than Cambridge
Murder- 0.0
Rape 20.3

All per 100,000

Not true, actually. SF was the main port in the Bay Area until the 1960s, when container shipping took off. The port of SF didn't have enough space to build a large container facility (just room for a small one), but the port of Oakland had plenty of room to expand, so it became the larger/busier seaport.

1. You never posted a source.

2. I have no clue what these numbers mean because they are all jumbled together. Regardless, I still diagree they are comparable.

3. This thread is not about Philadelphia or Atlanta or Detroit. The last time I checked it stated "Cambridge vs Oakland".

I found 3 census tracts denser than Oaklands densest although they only come out to a total ~1/3rd of a sq Mile. So it is not that signifigant. And Remember College students don't count in the census.

I actually did a calculation from before showing the 5 densest tracts from each. The land area is small for both, but Cambridge's area is considerably denser. Here's the data:

Oakland
Tract: Density
405401: 32,646.2
405302: 32,383.3
406202: 31,157.7
406201: 29,506.5
405402: 28,262.4

Total Pop: 18,968 in .618 sq miles, 30,667.8 ppsm in those five neighborhoods

Cambridge
Tract: Density
3539: 56,818.5
3538: 39,778.3
3525: 36,256.4
3528: 33,689.4
3535: 32,395.1

Total Pop: 19,403 in .466 sq miles, for 41,632.3 ppsm

Whats intresting about Meto Boston is it is very segrageted, for example Boston has a 90% white North end, then Just across DTX is Chinatown which is 90% non-white. and some of that is less extreme in Cambridge due to college transplants but its Neigborhoods are very distint, ethnicly and culturly
