That is pretty much the only stat that counts.

It's kinda funny that the South has had such a reputation for anti-semitism. Jefferson Davis appointed a Jew to his cabinet during the Civil War.

Anyway to the topic, I live in Boston and the Brookline and Newton suburbs are very Jewish. Additionally it seems that MA is the only state that pretty much all counties have relatively high Jewish concentrations.

that's mostly because there are no real rural counties in MA.

that have a high jewish% I was referring only to the counties that were referred to in the previous statement. The only rural county is (Nantucket and Dukes are breeds on to themselves) Franklin and it doesn't seem to have a higher jewish pop then much of the rest of the rural NE.

I forgot that the counties in MA are relatively big (compared to the state size), there are what, 6 counties? But the very north western counties seem pretty rural to me.
I worked at a coffee shop in Brookline that had kosher products, and sometimes at the branch in Newton... Lots of Jews, my neighbors in Brighton were Hassidics. LA has a lot too, less traditional though at least to the casual observer.

there are 14 counties in MA
in regards to the last part percentage wise (according to the federation) Baltimore is the most Orthodox metro area (based on there calculation of metro areas) (though I would bet NY tops them (just NYC I think would top Baltimore) especially if I throw in Rockland and Bergen Counties in to there metro and take out Sullfolk)
