Wind is my least favorite type of weather. It's loud, annoying, makes you cold, and makes it difficult to do anything outdoors. One of the only things I don't like about the Tokyo area is that it seems like it's windy all the time.
What I was wondering is what places have you been to or lived that is very windy, and what places are more calm? I hear the Bay Area can get windy, and so is the DFW area. Chicago might be, but it's nickname has nothing to do with the weather.
I can safely say Boston should be on your windiest list. I know I've had to my share of ended phone calls (because people on the line couldn't hear me) and I had to get boots with better grip.
I can't find the list now, but I know Massachusetts and West Texas have the highest average wind speeds in the nation. Growing up in Lubbock, which is somewhere in the top ten, I feel the exact opposite about wind. For me, it's refreshing. The only time it's annoying to me is when it gets above 25 or so, which usually only happens in spring. I know it's weird, but I get a little claustrophobic if there is no breeze at all.

I went to Boston last summer, and the wind was ridiculous for the time of year.
I live in the south part of Gilliam County in Oregon. We live 38 miles south of the Columbia River (noted for some of the best windsailing in the world!) and to our north and west are going up many many many new wind turbines (windmills) . . . that should say something . . .
Many parts of Oregon are not very windy, though. Just, if you see endless windmill farms . . . you'll wanna run if wind isn't your thing.

It's not the windiest, but Manhattan can get very windy. It's especially bad when you turn a corner and feel the shock of a gust of wind from the other side of the building.
