I'm reaching out to tap into the collective wisdom of City Data for some advice and insights. As a St. Louis native who moved away in the '90s and then returned a decade ago, I've found myself at a crossroads. While I've grown to love my life here, the political climate in Jefferson City has left me a bit weary.
Now, I'm considering a move to Minneapolis. I've heard incredible things about the city, though the weather might take some getting used to! I'd love to hear about your experiences in both places, focusing on the aspects you love and perhaps some things you weren't too fond of. Let's keep it real and personal, and please, let's leave crime stats out of the equation.
I'm particularly interested in the cultural scenes of both cities, given my passion for being physically active and enjoying cultural events. St. Louis, with its sports in Forest Park and vibrant cultural institutions, has been fantastic. Minneapolis, with its reputed charm and somewhat higher cost of living, seems like a dream. But does it translate to a better overall quality of life?
On a more personal note, I'd like to hear about the Black culture in Minneapolis and, more specifically, the Gay Black culture. How do they compare to St. Louis? Are there thriving communities, cultural events, and places that celebrate diversity?
Also, for a food enthusiast like me (90% of my meals come from farmers markets), how does Minneapolis fare in terms of local and fresh produce? And lastly, any insights on condo prices and the real estate scene would be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing your stories, insights, and maybe even some friendly advice to help me make this big decision!
While I've been to both cities, I'm an expert on neither. So I'm not going to be able to be of much help. If you're concerned about Missouri's political climate, I would have to assume that you lean left. If so, then I think you'll find Minnesota to be much more to your liking.
As far as black culture in Minneapolis, keep in mind that there are at least two major groups of black people there: African-American and Somali (either directly or descended). I would assume that there are differences between them. Not that I know for sure, but it's at least something for you to be aware of when you do your research.

Thanks for responding bus man!
I embrace a mix of liberal and conservative values, but recent legislative trends in Missouri have raised concerns for me. If successful, these changes could potentially alter the very essence of what makes St. Louis special in the next 10 years. Not to mention the wild anti LGBTQ legislation
So, I'm contemplating a move, and Minneapolis has caught my eye. I appreciate the insights shared in your previous post, and now I'm curious to hear more about the political climate in Minneapolis. How does it compare, and how has it influenced the local culture?
Moreover, for those who appreciate a mix of cultural diversity, what is the experience with the Black American and Somali communities in Minneapolis? Are there vibrant neighborhoods and cultural events that celebrate this diversity?
