Chicago, although its far from my favorite city. Why?
--Proximity: It's only 3 hours from where I live now and I travel there occasionally, living there wouldn't be that difficult of an adjustment.
--Climate: Four distinct seasons appeal to me, I'll take the good with the bad. I don't like the super humid weather of Cfa subtropical climates of which South Carolina is a part of.
--Mobility: I can survive without a car, most Southern cities are entirely car-dependent.
--Culture: I would feel more comfortable in Chicago as a young person because I feel there is more to do geared for my age. The last time I was in Charleston (ever so briefly) it seemed like it was hard to find friends and do things if I wasn't established already or connected to a religious organization. I am a Wiccan so you can imagine the tension that causes when religious subjects are brought up.
All in all, I wouldn't really choose either but that is my justification for Chicago.
Chicago for me, solely because I like big cities. Chicago is one of the best big cities in the US, and Charleston is one of the best small cities. These two don't really compare well with each other.
Do you plan on moving to either city? or just curious about what we think?
Charleston is in a warm climate, good cost of living, close to great resort areas like Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, Plus its nice being on the ocean.
Chicago you get all 4 seasons, high cost of living but affordable compared to NYC and LA, big city with alot to do, close to nice vacation spots in Michigan and Wisconsin, On the coast of Lake Michigan.
I pick Chicago because i like big cities and four seasons
