Chicago has the greystone and the bungalow. New York City has the brownstone. Philadelphia has the row home. These are all innovative, iconic, and largely unique to their cities. Which one do you like best?
My absolute favorite style of home is mediterranean (especially with red Spanish tile roofs). I don't know of any US cities that tend to favor that style in regular (non-wealthy) housing stock. If there is one, I would put it before Denver and San Francisco.
I like the Double Gallery, shotgun, and humpbacks found in New Orleans.
I also like the houses inside of Houston's inner loop, especially in the 3rd ward area, they just need a little work.

Louisville, a lot of different styles, the shotgun homes, and Old Louisville rowhouses.
