I think NC and GA will replace IL and PA the next 30/40 years by population. I also think VA will replace OH by that time as well. TN will obviously replace MA by then and maybe even NJ.
IL 12,830,632
PA 12,702,379
OH 11,536,504
MA 6,547,629
GA 9,687,653
NC 9,535,483
VA 8,001,024
TN 6,346,105
I see NC surpassing IL, GA surpassing PA, VA surpassing OH, and TN surpassing MA by 2050.
2010:
1. IL
2. PA
3. OH
4. GA
5. NC
6. VA
7. MA
8. TN
2050:
1. NC
2. GA
3. IL
4. PA
5. VA
6. OH
7. TN
8. MA
Anybody else want to share if this may/may not happen and their rationale?
Honestly, I think that if fresh water and energy become a really big deal, then Pennsylvania is sitting pretty, with plenty of fresh water, coal and natural gas. Ohio has fresh water and some natural gas, and Illinois has fresh water and some coal.
^^^ But Tennessee has good music, North Carolina has good sea food, Georgia has good Peaches and Virginia has... Good Tobacco. Those should count for something
Only on sites like this to people brag about unsustainable population growth.
where does sustainability come into play?
we are talking about adding a few million people, not the population of China.
Only on sites like this people throw big words around to sound smart, but fail to put the words into context of the discussion.
Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia adding 3M people over the next 40 years and Tennessee adding 200k over the same period does not scream unsustainable growth
Considering the populations of most all the Southern states mentioned here have DOUBLED in the past 30-40 years ... These estimates may be conservative. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Georgia and NC both had populations of 16 million plus by then.
