Yeah right. Miami gives you a virtually unrivaled nightlife, gorgeous water, nice beaches, exotic women, and a sexy Latin American flavor. That's hard to beat.
Honolulu beats Miami in terms of beaches, things to do like surfing, kayak, zipline, etc...outdoor activities. Nightlife wise, Miami wins easily. And Honolulu weather is unbeatable.
I'll take Honolulu over Miami anyday but that's for another thread....

I've never been to Honolulu, I was just offering something up. I don't doubt that Miami is the best place to get all those things in one, at least in the US. BTW - I voted South Beach... I know the Strip has incredible history but IMO it is just a major label staging ground at this point.
It is worth seeing for sure, and is visually interesting, but culturally it is totally not my thing. (I'm talking Sunset from Doheny to Fairfax, not the stretch from Fairfax to Gower in the City of LA).
Also something to note: from the other thread, most of the LA nightclubs that are in the top 100 revenue wise are not on the Strip... they are in Central Hollywood closer to where I live - I honestly had no idea they were such big money-makers.

I have been to Honolulu once and was pretty disappointed. Beautiful beaches and scenery of course -- better than Miami -- but otherwise it doesn't have any appeal to me. And if I want to go somewhere for a few days just to lay out on the beach I would take the Caribbean any day.

And what if one wants great nightlife AND warm ocean water in the middle of winter AND a city with lots to do? Then what?
Fair enough, but that specific combination just doesn't to compel me to get on a plane. I'd still prefer be in any of those places previously identified. Maybe warm ocean water in the winter is like warm weather in January to you. I'm unmotivated to seek it out. In the middle of the winter here, I'm not looking to escape the cold. If anything, I'm more tempted to go someplace appreciably colder, just for the contrast, eg NY.

Agreed. When I was living in Boston I was so psyched for my honeymoon because I knew it meant warm, tropical water. Now... meh.
I too would not want to visit a place just for the nightlife. It seems like with the hyped up nightlife areas the bang for your buck is pretty weak. Part of the reason I have never gone to any of the nightclubs here in LA.
And don't get me wrong, I'm no dud, I really like to party... just not so much in nightclubs.
