Which American city could be dropped in the middle of Philly and not be noticed.
I wouldn't say "not be noticed" because Philly has a distinct identity that is unlike any other city. With that said I would say ALL cities in the North East have distinct similarities to one another to a certain extent... outside of that I can't really think of another American city that would have these kind of similarities.
none of those cities are that similar. Don't let people on CD fool you. There may be ares that remind you of areas in other cities, but all of them are distinctly different
Buffalo NY
Both are gritty-post industrail cities
Both have a cheap signature food
Both have Prominte City halls
Both where elegantly planned around a central sq with city hall
Both live in the shadow of NYC (to some extent)
Both are provincial, blue collar industrial cities.
Both have Italian, Irish roots. Sizeable Black, Vietnamese and Russian populations. The Italian mob ran Utica for about 50 years through the prohibition, seen as Italian city.
Both have the same longitude.
Both have same slang. ("Youse", "Boss", "Yo", "Jeetyet")
Both have a Liberty Bell.
Both have tomato pie.
Both have signature food - Chicken Riggies and Cheesesteak.
One is 215, one is 315.
Utica area athletes play on more Philly teams than anywhere else.
Utica area minor league teams have been Philly affiliates.
Im not making any of this stuff up. The similarities are almost eery.
Look like and feel like parts of philadelphia are parts of pittsburgh, wilmington and camden nj both resemble parts of north and southwest philly.
