I don't think a lot of people really use "Carolina" in that fashion. A lot of people might think you're talking about which college you're going to after graduating high school, and UNC is most widely known as just "Carolina." While South Carolina draws many more tourists than North Carolina, especially towards the coast, North Carolina is larger, faster-growing, and has a better economy so it could get the nod in that respect.
As a native South Carolinian and former resident of Charlotte who now lives in Georgia, I go back to visit both rather frequently (a few weekends ago I was in Charlotte for the CIAA tournament, was in Columbia this past weekend, will be back in Columbia this weekend, going to Charlotte next weekend, and going back home to South Carolina Easter weekend), so I just generally use "Carolina" for both.
Definitely North Carolina. UNC is popularly known as Carolina (at least speaking as someone who attended an ACC school). Both professional sports teams named after "Carolina" are located in NC as well.

The teams rep both SC and NC........... They do not say NC Hurricanes or NC panthers

Based on sports associations and because my sister lives in the Raleigh area, NC usually comes to mind first. Though I wouldn't say SC is an afterthought either. The two states although both Southern definitely have very different dynamics. They're a lot more distinguishable from eachother than say North and South Dakota.
