NE probably has the most ethnic food variety...
South probably has the most localized differences in cuisines and is of course the most populous region, so makes sense.
NE has the most high end restaurants
West Coast, has the most on the mid range / low range, mostly to do with the amount of immigrants there and the cheap/variety of agriculture there. CA / OR / WA are all big foodie states.
Hmm..should've probably made this into a few separate threads since its asking pretty different questions.
On ethnic cuisines: I can see the West and Northeast fight it out, with a HUGE edge going toward the Northeast given the extreme ethnic diversity of the region.
On localized cuisines: South probably gets this, though the Northeast and Midwest have a huge say in it.
On restaurant class, ehh, don't really know why I asked since most places have a lot of each.
If you travel a lot you can eat more diversely in many places in the South. Houston alone has every cuisine offered throughout the US; New Orleans and Atlanta are real foodie towns. And Texas has every vegetable grown.
As far as diversity of foods is concerned the Northeast has a major advantage because of NYC being the most diverse dining city in the country. Then you throw in cities like Philly and Boston and you have a tough time matching up any other region with the Northeast.

Name one food you believe the Northeast has that no other region has? I'm willing to wager you're wrong.
I think I will go with the South. You have plenty of cities which have ethnic food like Miami and Atlanta and dare I say DC. You have Lousiana food, New Orleans and french food. Southern Food which has different types of in different states. Southern BBQ, Sea food all over the coast and different types like Stone Crabs down in South Florida or Oysters on the Gulf Coast. In Miami you can find any type of Latin food you could ever think of and Caribbean. Oranges of Florida, Peaches of Georgia etc.. I really do think the South takes this one.
