Before Hollywood, agriculture, especially citrus, was the main booster vehicle to get people to move here in the first place.

In fact, the city of Hollywood largely replaced...orange groves. Old timers swear the LA basin and its alluvial soil and access to local melt was the best growing locale, at least in the state. And the fruit on the mature trees you still find in local yards is simply spectacular.
