Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston could beat out SF, Miami, and Seattle, IMO.
I even think Miami, at least in terms of nightlife, can beat out SF.
I think that would really depend on how much weight you put on each category. For example, I don't have children. Therefore, what a metro offers for kids activities matters far less to me than what it has for adult activities.
As far as outdoor activities go, I would argue that Seattle and SF are probably two of the best in the country given the terrain and access (year-round) that both cities have to the outdoors. As someone who enjoys swimming in the ocean and skiing, San Francisco loses stock because the water's too cold and you have to drive 3+ hours to ski (whereas Boston has comfortable ocean water in the summer and skiing within sight of downtown).
In the end, I think it's just too difficult to create an "unbiased" list based on this criteria.
1. LA
2. SF/NYC tie (NYC has a better club scene and nightlife in that sense; SF has more outdoorsy activities in close proximity as well as better food)
4. Chicago
5. Las Vegas
Philadelphia? Really?!
1. Independence Hall
2. Liberty Bell
