Surprise Florida doesn't have more votes.

-Lots of international tourists visit Miami and Orlando
-Miami, along with New York, is an entry point for the Caribbean. And in the United States, is a large vector for Latin American trade
-Lots of Europeans and Africans, and an increasing amount of Asians also live in the state of Florida.

http://www.census.gov/compendia/stat...es/12s0038.pdf

Florida: 18.1% Foreign Born
Texas: 16.1% Foreign Born (with a huge plurality I suspect is from Mexico)
Northern California: Don't know. Won't guess. If someone has numbers that would be great.

Do you have numbers for the origin of the foreign born for each?

I get the impression that the vast majority of Texas' foreign born is from Mexico.

2,485,336 people or 59.9% of Texas' foreign born population is from Mexico.

That number is actually lower than I thought it would be. I was expecting 70s. I suspect this number is getting lower.

I suspect that the vast majority of foreign born from Northern California are from Mexico and China as well.

IMO, Northern California nor Texas has the foreign born country spread that Florida does. When it comes to different regions of the world, I'd say Texas would win by having large numbers of foreign born from Africa, Latin America, and Asia while Florida is strictly Western Hemisphere and Northern California is from Central America and East Asia.
