Thought I would resurrect this thread. The last one was deleted because it ended up turning into an argument about Philadelphia.
New Orleans: 46 as of 4/3/12. We had a flurry of killings to begin the year and then a drop-off but it has started again. With the unusually warm weather here (that was also experienced around the country) the murder rate is higher than it would normally be.
There was a thread where basically it was a track of the homicide numbers in the major cities for the year. This is version 2 per se.
Detroit is up to 72 according to the DPD. Ouch. This time last year it was 69 and in 2010 was 59. 2008 and 2009 were 81 and 68 respectively.
Also within the Detroit metro, the suburb of Pontiac has had a lot of murders lately. There's been at least several within the last couple of weeks. Pontiac currently doesn't have a police force and relies on the county sheriffs.

At the current pace, New Orleans could hit 184 murders. Who knows? It could hit 200 this year.
"illadelph, home of the original gun-clappers", as black thought from the roots once said, is winning this horrible race so far with a whooping 94 homicides so far this year.
*Actually, looking at it from the population of a city, i think B-more has it beat, 44 deaths through 600 residents, if you extrapolate that number by 2.5 the deaths would be 110. This is all hypothetical of course
