Oh, and to point out Portland, OR is ranked overall at NUMBER 1 as the most unhappiest city to live in http://http://images.businessweek.com/ss/09/02/0226_miserable_cities/2.htm (broken link)
Oh course Portland is the unhappiest! A majority of the population consist of liberal leftist with tons of angst. The weather is a just a reflection of the people there. Which in turn, makes it even more miserable.
Wouldn't the obvious answer to the most popular cities be 100% based on population over the age of 18.
If in NYC there's 5 million 18+ that would seem to me it means its more popular than say Buffalo, NY with only 1.2 million people. If Buffalo was more popular it would have the larger population.
I think this survey must be taken with a grain of salt, even after reading the original article I'm not sure what the criteria was that they used.
That said, Seattle definitely has certain brand names going for it, (Starbucks, Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon), and most pics of the area are beautiful. I think a lot of this comes from many who have never spent more than a few days in Seattle, and if so, probably in the glorious summer. But I will admit to being a homer, as well, as this is where I grew up and am grateful for it.
Cleveland and Salt Lake City but no Denver? Hmmm...
I had similar thoughts for others including no St. Louis, a metro of almost 3 million, big cultural and historical ties to the nation, bigger business center, etc. which would rank it higher than quite a few on that list for "most important," but again, it doesn't actually say that (that I could find)... just, "21 major metropolises."
As for the cities they do list, I agree with others that this list is uh....
This list is ridiculous! Dallas at No. 6 ? It's one of the most hated upon cities if you believe city-data!
Yet its one of the most loved if you consider the amount of people who move here. However, I dont believe for a moment its one of the most loved cities in the US. San Diego, Boston, New York, etc. get that title.
It is important to differentiate CD from real life.

Your posts are to negative IMO. Dallas is seen as a favorable place to live by many Americans, more than those that hate it. You have your citys public relations, media advisors, and reputation builders to thank for that while having one of the countrys best shopping and fashion scenes and many attractions and businesses to help.
"Detroit is the least popular American city.... based on these 21 cities!" Yes. That makes perfect sense!!
Baltimore has no business being on a list of popular cities. Not now, not ever.
Oakland? lol.
Garbage.
