What cities have the most ambitious sustainability plans over the coming years. Obviously plans can not be taken as fact and plans often don't come to fruition, but every movement starts with a plan. With most urban areas returning from the depths as cities regain population across the country, what is being done to be more green and sustainable in your city?

Your cities predicted population gains?
Your cities predicted density increases?
Your cities predicted transportation infrastructure additions?
Your cities planned unique green features?
Your cities future affordable housing policies?

With energy pricing rising and our old way of life drifting farther and farther away, what cities will be in the best position in the future?

Los Angeles just announced a bike-share program that will be the second largest in the nation (behind NYC). 400 station, 4000 bikes - all privately funded at no cost to the taxpayer. Pretty sweet deal:

DC has an interesting (though unfunded) sustainability plan. It will be interesting to see how much of this is actually instituted.

Also, while it is not an overall sustainability plan, I really like the Atlanta Beltline plan to encircle the city with parks, trails, and eventually better development and transportation.

That's great, I think a lot of cities will be joining the bike culture very soon. It is the next step in American infrastructure I think.

A lot of sustainability projects in Detroit are currently grassroots movements (pun not intended). Agriculture could possibly become a huge determining force in the city's future economy.

I recently read about some projects in Detroit in National Geographic. It's great to see that there are some exciting things happening in Detroit. I would love for the city to make a comeback.

I'm sure everyone is aware of Atlanta's Beltline but I digress:

Atlanta BeltLine > Basics - Overview (http://www.beltline.org/BeltLineBasics/BeltLineBasicsOverview/tabid/1691/Default.aspx - broken link)

Quote:
The Atlanta BeltLine is a comprehensive redevelopment and mobility project that will shape the way Atlanta grows throughout the next several decades. The project provides a network of public parks, multi-use trails and transit along a historic 22-mile railroad corridor circling downtown and connecting 45 neighborhoods directly to each other. The Atlanta BeltLine is the most comprehensive economic development effort ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta and among the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment projects currently underway in the United States.
