To me these are comparable, both similar in size, similiar weather, near the beach, near much larger cities(miami even though 4 hours away, los angeles, right around the corner, and have similiar architecture (imo), both are close to entertainment destinations ( anaheim, ca, orlando,fl), and many things to do within the city.

Compare and contrast the two.

Better Weather
Better beaches,
diversity
food
cost of living
crime
history
shopping
nightlife
better looking women
things to do
air quality
traffic
down to earth people

If going to the beach is a huge concern, pick Tampa. You will only swim in Long Beach 3 months out of the year before that water gets cold. If you pick LB, bring your wetsuit.

O/A I'd live in Long Beach before Tampa. I'm not much of a beach person, so I'd be more interested in what the cities themselves offer. IMO Long Beach offers a lot more as a city than Tampa.

Have you ever been to Tampa? There is way more going on there than Long Beach...

How many adults go to the beach to "swim"? I ask that as a person that generally has little interest in the beach or beach activities. I agree that in general Florida is better for pretty much any water sport except surfing and maybe a couple others because of warmer water and warmer weather, but do many adults swim in the ocean in Florida?
