SV. The government exists out of necessity; SV exists because of continuing innovation.

Silicon Valley by miles and miles. Semi-repeating what Mutiny said, but the creation in Silicon Valley is organic, while the government complex is mandated.

They're pretty much similar in all respects. I prefer the Silicon Valley though, there is far less corruption going on there.

Silicon Valley. Better weather, better scenery, no bad neighborhoods. Plus software engineers > government parasites.

DC's economy is based upon and funded by tax money from every state so it isnt comparable to anything. Its like overhead in a corporation. A corporation that says HQ is important because of all the big salaries in HQ has a fundamental mis understanding of what their role is. Same is true for DC. I pay a lot of money in taxes to the gov and feel like I got poor value for my money. so hearing they are highly paid is a negative to me not something they should brag about.

Let's be fair now. SV isn't solely reliant on VC funding. There are government contractors in SV. Not to mention the top firms in SV received government funds in 2009.

People always make SV out as the well behaved child when compared to Wall Street and Washington when that's not the case. SV is just as greedy as Wall Street and government.

I have no issue with greed in silicon valley, my issue with DC is living off my tax money. There is little else done in DC other than spin offs from gov spending or policies. Without it DC is foggy bottom. VC is not the key either, many investors put there money behind apple, google etc.... making money for investors and getting a good salary for that success is what we all should do. Getting a high salary for spending my tax money is another matter.
