From your list Madison, but I like Iowa City, IA, Bloomington, IN, and to visit but probably not considered metros are Mackinac Island and South Haven (really most of the small coastal towns) in MI and Two Harbors, MN.
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

I'm going with Omaha. I like the charm of the Old Market and the nicely landscpaed parkland along the river. The new bridge is cool too. It was a surprisingly nice city.
I put the top ten under one million metros in the poll, plus an other option if you want to vote for another city. Fort Wayne at 416,257 metro is beat out by:
Lansing,MI 464,036
Springfield, MO 436,712
Flint, MI 425,790
If you want to vote for Fort Wayne, vote for other and mention that your vote for other is a vote for Fort Wayne here in the thread!

Also depends on your definition of metro.
If you use the CSA its around 550k-600k.
anyway Fort Wayne is just under Lansing's population for a metro so it deserves some love

If you went by CSA, all of the top ten would go up, too.
I picked Omaha. It came down to Omaha or Des Moines for me. Omaha has the Old Market, a Little Italy, a world class zoo, the College World Series every year in a sparkly new ballpark (30,000 seats?), an incredibly walkable downtown (Leahy Mall), great network of parks and trails, the best skyline of the bunch, an emerging arts and music scene, a strong medical sector, and proximity to the state capital and huge big ten university in Lincoln. There's more. Omaha is the cat's meow.
Des Moines is great, too, and may be growing faster than Omaha. I also like Madison. The economy is strong because of state jobs, the setting on the lakes is pristine, it is incredibly dense in its core, the capitol is beautiful, and UW attracts a huge amount of human capitol which contributes to the arts, music, and nightlife scenes. However, I am kind of a sucker for skyscrapers and big business, which Omaha has (Warren Buffet, anyone?)

Love Omaha....it's definitely a gem. I also love Madison - very beautiful setting.
