Our youngest son was stationed at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville and he did him Jump School at Ft. Benning in Columbus. I think Fayetteville could do a little better without their military base overall. I've never really thought that much about it, but just off of the top of my head, that's the feeling I get.
I'd say Columbus since it has a more robust corporate presence; the headquarters of Aflac, TSYS, Synovus, and the W. C. Bradley Co. are located there.
I agree about the more robust Columbus corporate base. Also, because Ft. Bragg is much larger than Ft. Benning troop-wise and employment-wise, Fayetteville losing Bragg would definitely hurt Fayetteville more than Columbus losing Benning. It's all proportional. Losing either base would be disastrous for either city, and even more disastrous for America! With Democrats soon to be in charge, stay tuned! Obama was disastrous for Benning, and I worry about Biden, who fetches whenever Obama says "Fetch, Joe!"
