I was in the Navy, and I would put seattle up there in the top 20 most beautiful cities in the World. Denver is a butt ugly city landscape wise. Denver against San Diego...Ive never seen such a odd comparison. SD SD SD SD SD all the way. HUGE Bronco fan by the way!!! Would rather watch them in SD by the ocean.

As I've already said, Yelp is a terrible tool for comparisons. But since you insist on me providing "proof" of my claim that LODO indeed has more establishments...

LODO

Bars: 200 http://www.yelp.com/search
Clubs: 91 http://www.yelp.com/search
Restaurants: 391 http://www.yelp.com/search

Gaslamp Quarter

Bars: 188 http://www.yelp.com/search
Clubs: 89 http://www.yelp.com/search
Restaurants: 389 http://www.yelp.com/search

There you go. PROOF that LODO does have more bars, clubs AND restaurants.

Satisfied? The upper-right corner of each search result will give you the total number of inquired establishments.

I never said the Gaslamp Quarter lacked vibrancy or density. I just said LODO is larger and more entertaining. LODO has better establishments, a MUCH better atmosphere, more variety and more of just everything.

I'm aware of Denver's big LR expansion plans but until then it's system still carries less commuters overall.
I never disputed this. However, Denver's light rail does have more riders per mile than San Diego's. After all the current expansions under construction are completed by 2016, Denver will absolutely have higher commuter numbers than San Diego.

A minute ago you were claiming Denver was denser.
My sarcasm there apparently doesn't translate through the web...

That's weird, I guess it depends how you do your search in Yelp. When I did it just clicked on the filters by "neighborhood" and "category" instead of typing them in. When you do that it drops them for both but then shows Gaslamp as having more in all the categories.

Gaslamp: 131 (bars), 61 (clubs),227 (restaurants)
LoDo: 104 (bars), 56 (clubs), 183 (restaurants)

Bars Denver
Clubs Denver
Restaurants Denver

Bars Dallas
Clubs San Diego
Restaurants San Diego

So based on two searches from the same site with different yet close results I'd say it's a wash. Not sure why it does that or makes a difference when you check off a filter. If you prefer LoDo over Gaslamp that's fine obviously but as far as the # of establishments neither has a clear advantage over the other. At this point it's splitting hairs to which has "more" bars, clubs, and restaurants.

Leaving out the neighborhoods of Hillcrest, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and La Jolla in these yelp searches is limiting what makes San Diego special.

It's doesn't matter how big Denver becomes or how dense its downtown becomes it will never have 75 miles of beaches, hills and bluffs within 20mins of 80% its population. It will never have weather that can be enjoyed year round and an ocean that can be enjoyed year round.

And SD will never have world renown mountains with famous ski towns near by...your point? Denver is also known for its nice (sunny) climate and mostly mild winters.

Let me make this clear. My point in making this thread was not for people to constantly talk about how much Denver lacks in natural beauty. Natural Scenery seems to be the thing people turn to when they can't come up with anyting better to discuss.

I made a whole list of criteria, and so far all I've heard (from multiple people) about an ocean and topography.

You cannot judge a city solely on scenery! I thought when comparing two places, you judge Urbanity, Downtowns, Suburbs, Shopping options, etc. Scenery is 1 category that SD wins in.

Whoever sent me the rep saying to "vote for San Diego in the SD vs Denver thread"...It's a internet poll, not a big deal. Besides, SD is winning anyways.

I figured the mountain response would come up. The beaches, bays, hills, and canyons are part of San Diego, whole neighborhoods and districts are part of this natural diversity. Denver's access to its mountains are the same as Sacramento's access to its mountain country. SD also has access to high country and deserts should you desire that.

For cultural attributes, SD has plenty of live theater and enough major league sports to fit my fancy. It has Balboa Park and its museums.

Downtowns: Tie
Suburbs: Tie
Shopping: SD, more unique settings on the coast and in La Jolla, high-end fashion shopping, light rail direct connection to several major shopping centers
Cultural amenities: Tie
Urbanity: Overall vibrancy including all districts: edge to SD
Tall Buildings: Tie, slight edge to SD because of architecture

Tall buildings to sd? Your bias is CLEARLY showing! sd has NOTHING along the lines of Denver's height or density! Tall buildings is def. soemething that is not an opinion. It is a FACT that Denver trumps sd in this category.
