I'm currently looking for a city that is good for a single female that has just started her own business. Which one has more things to do? Better restaurants/shopping? Better place for new businesses?

Hampton Roads is close to Washington, but Charlotte kind of does it's own thing and is still close to Washington and Atlanta for other major cities.

Since you're just starting a business and you're apparently looking for the dating-typical young lifestyle, I say Charlotte.

Well, as a single female, HR might have appeal in that it has a large military population. I can attest that Charlotte is good for younger singles, but I've heard it can something of a challenge for middle-aged singles given its family-friendly nature.

Charlotte has more in the way of things to do as far as pro sports and possibly concerts/special events, but HR has the beach and all that comes with that. Its coastal location might also give it a leg up in terms of restaurants, but I'm pretty sure Charlotte does better with shopping.

Overall, it seems to be a bit of a toss-up. I'd visit each to see which one suits me best.
