Charlotte claims 25 million visitors per year
Washington claims 16 million visitors per year

Could it be because of Charlotte's hub status with US air that somehow they skew the numbers. I mean I know nobody who makes a destination to see endless 1990s sprawl for a vacation.

Charlotte a tourist city? I have never known somebody to go there other than for work. I have known countless people to go to DC for tourism though. Something is up with those numbers.

They count somebody having a two hour layover at Charlotte international as a "tourist". Hell, I visited like 10 times last year.........

I would say that D.C.'s number is acurate just using common sense. Disneyworld from what I recall draws a little more than half the number you say Charlottte claims anually, and it employs monorails and bus systems to move the volume from one attraction area to another, having been designed to faclitate large volumes of people. I'm certain that Charlotte's infrastructure and road system couldn't handle anywhere near this number of visitors in a year. Secondly even though Charlotte's Downtown buildings are attractive, what would be the draw for a huge volume of tourisits? If this number is drawn from anything at all it probably combines passengers flowing through the US Airways hub from one plane to another with other reported numbers from different agencies.

When did Charlotte become a tourist destination? I've been there a few times to visit friends and I wouldn't consider it very touristy. I'm assuming the numbers are due to flight connections or they were provided by an deceitful Chamber.
