The three national capitals to the 3 largest countries in North America.

Let's compare these three cities on vibrancy, culture, amenities, scenery, international influence, food, more urban, history, architecture, public transit, nightlife, COL, etc. More exciting for visitors? More exciting to live in?

Obviously Ottawa (1.5M) is a quarter of the size of DC (6M) which is a quarter of the size of Mexico City (22M) but that should not interfere with a decision to which city you like more.

Ottawa is a pretty city and I love the architecture but it is totally outclassed and not in either Washington D.C or Mexico City's league. I'd go with Washington D.C here - I love the history, cultural attractions and architecture. Mexico City is a close second for the grand scale of the place.

Well Mexico City has a far greater cultural impact on Mexico itself (since it is also the business/cultural hub for Mexico in addition to being the capital), compared with Washington DC for the US or Ottawa for Canada. There is also more of a historical aspect to the city since it was built atop Aztec ruins and still contains a lot of colonial architecture, and it also has an extensive and relatively cheap subway system.

However Washington DC and Ottawa have more international influence since both the US/Canada are multi-cultural societies.

Compared to the Washington DC area, I'd expect Mexico City to have more vibrancy, culture, food, urbanity, history and nightlife. There's most likely more to see in Mexico City as well given its sheer size. I do like megacities.

On the other hand, the DC area is more affluent, international, has more renowned architecture and institutions and has a greater impact on the world overall. Plus, I bet a lot more Mexicans live in the DC area than Americans live in Mexico City. ;-)

As far as overall quality of life, 1 Ottawa 2 Washington DC 3 Mexico City

But I would still prefer to live and work and play in Mexico City than the other 2 and its not really close. Mexico City is way more my personality and style, and I speak Spanish(sort of)....in a Brazilian Portuguese sort of way. Latin America is like my second home.

Wow this is very imbalanced. You literally are comparing a MEGA city to a LARGE city to a Medium City.

They are just not comparable. Sorry. DC and Ottawa are more comparable to each other, but even DC is more significant as a city. Mexico City is way too different of a city to be compared to those cities.

This is the equivalent of doing Tokyo vs. Chicago vs. Florence. Completely different cities, in size, charactersitics and influence in to their countries.
