Because all three of those cities are kicking major economic ass right now. They're set to explode over the next twenty years. They're fantastic places to put down roots.

The list was based on job opportunities for young professionals, not necessarily 'hip'. While it's true many of the 'hip' cities made the list, i.e. Seattle, San Francisco, Boston, Austin, some cities are great career cities but they are not hip.

Charlotte's economy has never fully recovered from the financial collapse. Plus, it seems to be more of a 30-something mid-level career town than a young professional town. A lot of 20-somethings I knew when I lived in Charlotte actually liked Raleigh-Durham better because they said it was younger-oriented.

These lists mean about as much as a late night infomercial..for whatever reason, they are taken as gospel by boosters. Absolutely no surprises there.

All the cities on the top 10 list are boring except for Philadelphia. Just visit Philly and see how many young people are in the city. Or ask your friends, I bet a lot of them wish they could live here.
