I use to live in the Seattle Metro area and I'm considering moving back. I would first like to know how Austin stacks up, as I've been considering moving there as well.

Cool Austin or Seattle you Ask?

Been in both towns. Seattle for over 15 yrs and Austin for about 3 yrs.

I have to say I love the sun and can deal with the heat in Austin.
Love that you can take part in church and not feel like an outcast.
Love that house prices are fairly reasonable (getting higher by the day though)

but when you put them side to side
the pros of Seattle far outweigh the pros of Austin

Seattle beautiful Green, water, mountains and you can drive a few hours for something different
Great restaurants, nothing in Austin really other than bbq. Folks here think they have good food but they haven't a clue..
That actually is really what makes Austin so funny. No one here seems to realize what they don't have.
It is a small town with some new tech in the city so folks come here to be a big fish in a very very tiny town, it is easy to shine here bc the level of smarts and innovation isn't high bar.

Hipsters in Austin..omg..I can't write about the..far to painful to. It is just comical to watch this breed in action absolutely all fluff with zero brains or ability to work hard.

Seattle like Austin has zero income tax and they also have a very low property tax. In Austin if the house is less expensive than Seattle you will pay the difference in property tax..which you won't get when you sell. You purchase an expensive home in Seattle, odds are you will get that back when the value of the house goes up.

Gosh I miss Seattle just writing about it.

Oh 2 more pros however for Austin Area: Schools are far better than Seattle area so you don't have to go the route of private school
Music scene here is still alive in well. When I left Seattle it was pretty horrible..not what it was back in the late 90's.
