Birmingham has over 1 million people in the metro and is almost exactly the same size as New Orleans. Birmingham is larger than any city in South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi, and is the same size as New Orleans. Outside of Atlanta it's tied for the largest city in the deep south.
