Again, doesn't really mean anything. "city hall" is such an arbitrary spot and doesn't really provide much information. NYC and Chicago both have their city hall's in the center of their financial districts, they are not even close to the center of the population.

Philadelphia.

Washington is to Philadelphia on urban/walkability/vibrant/dense as Philadelphia is to Washington on importance/power/relevance, minimum one or two tiers down.

The stats that I posted are at the CENTER of each city. Even at Chicagos CBD, it still never pulls ahead of Philly in nothing. And that counts Phillys and Chicagos metro. Phillys city hall is in the middle of the CBD also..

Perfect. Couldn't have said it better. Washington D.C. is the most powerful city in the world.

I don't get your argument. I mean, I agree with your point (apartments vs. rowhouses), but your conclusion is all wrong.

And this is exactly why NYC is much more structurally dense. It's because the apartment buildings are taking up more space than the rowhouses. How could Philly be more dense, when we're comparing two floor buildings with back yards and alleys to seven floor buildings with no back yards or alleys?

You posted that in the last thread. How so? These stats look perfect to me.

Most rowhomes in south Philly don't have front or back yards, and some only have back. West Philly ones haw both, but its very connected and dense from street to street.

D.C.'s number's change dramatically when you do it from 14th and U street which is the real center of the District. A 1 mile radius from the U.S. capitol is mainly park land (National Mall), rivers, and national monuments.

But how is a two-floor rowhouse denser than a seven-floor apartment building? I'm not getting this.
