Lets put crime stats aside and focus just on looks. Which city has the best looking ghettos visually? Residential areas are obviously the most important, because they reflect how people live and what their living standards are and I think we all know that ghetto in one place might be considered a middle class community in other city or country and they are not equal.
I will post 3 street view links to each city ghetto area to give you guys an idea of how ghettos in that particular city look like, Im unable to post 20 links to each city because who would get through them all? But you can obviously look at other steets yourself. For those of you who have been to these ghettos yourself the decision should be easier to make.
This poll is only between these 5 cities but you can name any other in the comments if you think there is a differnt large city in America with "best" looking ghettos. And to avoid question like; "why did you not include xxx city on the list" - Well its impossible to do it for all american cities which is why I only picked the major large ones, 2 from south west, 1 from midwest and 2 from North East.
Which city has the nicest looking ghettos for you?

All of the ones in your links were just plain awful though, I mean you can say some looked ridiculously more deplete than the others but really, talk about ugliness everywhere.
The sad thing about Philly's ghettos is that the buildings and neighborhoods themselves are beautiful, but it's the poor people that don't take care of their houses that ruin much of the city.
Those "ghetto" neighborhoods in Philly would look lovely if middle class people or "young professionals" moved in and kicked the poor people out who don't take care of their own property.
In terms of architecture, though, the ghetto buildings in LA and Las Vegas are just tacky and cheap looking when compared to the ghetto buildings in Philly, NY, and some of Chicago.

This was a great idea! I just posted a thread about it!
It'd be nice if you posted some Los Angeles neighborhoods that are, you know, actually in the city.
Not that there is a vast difference between what Compton looks like and what Southeast LA looks like, but still it would be nice for people to stop using the cliche of Compton and East LA are Los Angeles' ghettos.
I mean, if you are going to use East LA why not just move a click to the west and use Boyle Heights, which is actually in Los Angeles?

Can't really speak for Vegas, but there is some nice architecture in LA's poorer neighborhoods, though it is largely residential architecture. Lots of really well-designed mid-century single family homes.
And I personally have a soft spot for the brilliantly colored, often homemade / painted signs that adorn the non-strip mall commercial buildings in LA's poorer neighborhoods.

Both neighborhoods in city of LA and both are considered bad neighborhoods (for the most part). Honestly I don't think most bad neighborhoods are bad anymore, I think thats just rich people code for "too many minorities" or "too much history and culture" .. but thats just me.

I'll save everyone some time and just repost the actual links:
I've heard Pico-Union still has some pretty bad gang-violence, but in general have heard West Adams is not as bad as its reputation.
