Montreal and SF, in particular, I could go either way. I'm pretty sure Philly feels the biggest, though, because it has the tallest buildings, the biggest prewar highrise fabric, and the most extensive rowhouse neighborhoods.

You're probably right. Though I did have a friend who tried to convince me Philadelphia wasn't that big (she was from Wisconsin, not Milwaukee). I said there was over a million people and she didn't believe me. She thought DC was a bigger city (and she's been to Philadelphia). It's hard to say what people will perceive.
