Everything SF has to offer is considered 'local' by people in Berkeley as its a 20-min subway ride away. Even the city of Berkeley itself has world class dining, a vibrant, historic downtown with a subway station half a block from the Cal campus, lots of art and culture and is in the heart of the urban East Bay.
To each his own but from a livability and amenities standpoint, I dont see how the others compare, except Palo Alto which is an uber rich satellite city that is the cradle of Silicon Valley and has incredible upscale amenities like top shelf shopping(Bloomingdale's, Louis Vuitton etc), terrific food, exceptional recreation, not to mention the opportunity to network with the some of the most brilliant and driven people in the world.

I like Tucson, beautiful setting and the AU campus is has very nice landscaping, with a cool eclectic area around it. Downtown Tucson is shaping up nicely for the future as well, it surprised me and in certain parts has a bit of an old world feel. Tucson is definitely the most scenic large city in Arizona.

Don't forget Palo Alto also has some strong hippie roots as it was where the Grateful Dead met, formed and played during their early career, as well as where the Electric Kool-Aid acid tests took place. Those roots buried have been buried under Silicon Valley and wealth to some extent, but they are still there if you know where to look.
I had to vote for Corvallis since I was born there.
