I'm from the Himalayas (the craggy part) and we look at Alaska mountains as something more like tiny embryos
Care to explain? Sure the Himalayas are higher, but they sit on the tibetan plateau which is 4500 meters on average which drastically reduces the impressiveness of the mountains. The col between Denali and Logan is 709 meters. Denali has a prominence of 6144 m and Logan of 5250 m. The distance between the two peaks is 620 km. The col between Everest and Nanga Parbat, the second most prominent mountain in the region, is 3517 m. Everest has a prominence of 8848 m and Nanga of 4608 m. However, these peaks are 1400 km apart.
The base to peak rise of Denali is greater than any mountain on earth above sea level (the base of a mountain is not defined as a river gorge that runs along one side of it).
Please. Colorado BLOWS cali away! We have FAR MORE 14ers than all the rest of the lower 48 combined!!!!! Cali's tallest is only a smidge taller. Alaska is probably the winner though!

Yes, the Canadian Rockies are magnificent and I also prefer them to the US Rockies.
But as beautiful as the mountains are in California I'm somewhat mystified that some people prefer them to the Colorado Rockies. Serried ranks of snow covered mountains everywhere in Colorado. Awesome.

I think the difference in elevation between base and peak is higher in California, making them seem like taller mountains even though in many cases they are not.

I think they're both beautiful in their own ways, but what is Colorados answer to Yosemite Valley? The Giant Seqouias? A massive lake like Tahoe?
