Its actually not at all dis-similar to Dallas (where I currently live) in terms of good parties and after parties.

I just cant place it up there with places like Miami, Vegas, Chicago, NYC, Philly, or New Orleans for being a crazy party city.
Philly and even Chicago over L.A. for nightlife is a stretch.

Right. LA I thought was disappointing, but it has many obvious unique properties that make it fun and quintessentially LA, which I think has appeal.

In my opinion it isnt. I realize this is all subjective. I much prefered living in LA over Chicago, but having lived in LA and Chicago I would rank Chicago as much more of a party city and as having a better nightlife.

I have not lived in Philly, so my judgements are based on my visits to Philly vs. living in LA.

Agreed, which is why I believe Dallas, SLC, Houston, Austin, Buffalo, San Antonio and Columbus should not be on that list. The only votes they'll garner are from people who are from those areas. I've lived in Dallas and Austin and the nightlife for both those cities pales when compared to Chicago, NY, Vegas, etc. No competition whatsoever.

Based on the poll:
1. NYC
2. Chicago
2. LA
4. Miami
5. Las Vegas
6. New Orleans
7. Atlanta
8. Austin

This looks like a pretty good list. Idk what there is in Austin, but I guess there is something going on at night.

Staten Island would be a nightlife Mecca if your logic was sound.

L.A. has the best night clubs this side of Miami and Vegas, a great live music scene, and a good bar scene. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
