You forgot Boston! Bunker Hill Monument, Old North Church, Pru Tower, Old State House, Fenway, Boston Commons, Freedom Trail, USS Constitution, etc. etc.

Yes, exactly what I was going to say. East because of the history behind them, their age, and their prominence - all specifically, their history and involvement in the making of America or modern day iconic cities.

To sum this up:

Eastern man-made monuments > Western man-made monuments
Western natural "monuments" > Eastern natural "monuments"

The OP seems to have meant the former, which is reflected in the poll. When foreigners think of the "United States" in terms of nature, however, they are generally thinking of The West.
