What about the larger Connecticut cities like Bridgeport (33%), Hartford (34%), and New Haven (36%)? Isn't CT seen as vanilla suburbia, even among nearby blacks in NYC and Northern NJ? I could be wrong, but I just got the impression that's how they look at CT.
I think it depends, as you have suburbs like Bloomfield, Windsor, Hamden, Stratford, East Hartford and some others that actually have above average to predominately Black percentages. You have some others with enough Black people to know they are there, but most of those mentioned could be located in any major or Southern metro in terms of Black percentage.

Here are a couple of lists, as some cities/communities aren't on the city list: Connecticut Black Population Percentage City Rank Based on US Census 2010 data

Connecticut Black Population Percentage School District Rank Based on US Census 2010 data

So, the community/city with the highest Black percentage in CT is ironically a suburb of Hartford.

Just to add to this, #5 on the second list(Windsor) is also a suburb of Hartford next to #1(Bloomfield).

A couple of areas in smaller Michigan metros that come to mind: Willow Run Community Schools Population and Races - USA.comâ„¢ (outside of Ypsilanti)

Buena Vista School District Population and Races - USA.comâ„¢ (outside of Saginaw, school district may have dissolved)

A couple more: Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District Population and Races - USA.comâ„¢ (also outside of Saginaw)

Lincoln Consolidated School District Population and Races - USA.comâ„¢ (also near Ypsilanti/outer Detroit suburbs, is in the Ann Arbor metro by the way)

Where did the OP request significant black suburban populations? This is about cities, and Milwaukee has a large population that isn't recognized by the bulk of the nation, thereby being one of the most valid inclusions on this thread. People are already quite aware of places like DC, ATL and Chicago.

I'm sure it is, but the thread is in regards to cities/communities with a higher Black population/percentage that aren't thought about or recognized on a national/larger scale.

Another smaller city in the Northeast that comes to mind is Poughkeepsie NY, which is about 34% Black. Waterbury CT at a respectable 20% Black is another one that comes to mind.
