I'm not in a place to break down the numbers now, but by the end of the day I will. At that point, the numbers will show DC is actually more multicultural than Houston by a good bit. The only place in all the US that is definitively more multicultural than the DMV is NYC. A case could even be made for DC over LA and the Bay.
In your dreams buddy

To your first point, I actually believed that as well until Code lyoko did the numbers. Excluding the largest Hispanic demographic, DC has 526,000 and Houston has 503,000. That's only a 23,000 difference and I think Houston will pass DC before the next census as the Columbian, Honduran, and Venezuelan, populations are exploding down there. This is why I say Houston rapidly catches up.

As far as multicultural. I don't think DC beats Miami here. Nor LA. I thinks it's on par with SF though.

With the Mexican population growth slowing down, I can see where you are coming from now.

Miami's diversity is overrated. One trick pony. Pathetic.

D.C. > Houston >> Miami

PG County does have its spots of diversity. Just go up into the northern parts of the county such as Greenbelt, College Park, Beltsville, Laurel, Berwyn Heights, Mount Rainier, Riverdale Park, Brentwood, Cottage City, Adelphi, and Hyattsville. PG may not be the most diverse county in the DMV but I wouldn't write it off so lightly since it has its spots of diversity just like DC.

I disagree but since Miami is not part of the topic, I will not continue on it.

Alright, I pulled the numbers for both Houston and the DMV. First, Ill address the Hispanic communities in both:

Houston:

Total Hispanic community size: 2,044,000
Largest Hispanic community size (Mexican): 1,606,000 - 78.6% of total Hispanic population

Other large Hispanic communities:

Salvadoran: 147,000 - 7.2% of total Hispanic population
Honduran: 52,000 - 3.2% of total Hispanic population
Guatemalan: 44,000 - 2.7% of total Hispanic population
Puerto Rican: 26,000 - 1.6% of total Hispanic population

Total for top 5 Hispanic groups in Houston: 93.3%

http://www.pewhispanic.org/files/sta...Houston_10.pdf

The DMV:

Total Hispanic population size: 774,000
Largest Hispanic group size (Salvadoran): 266,000 - 34.3%

Other large Hispanic groups:

Mexican: 122,000 - 15.8%
Guatemalan: 50,000 - 6.5%
Puerto Rican: 48,000 - 6.2%
Peruvian: 47,000 - 6.1%

Total for top 5 Hispanic groups in the DMV: 68.9%

http://www.pewhispanic.org/files/sta...gton-DC_10.pdf

Now lets look at current immigration trends. In 2012:

Immigration from Africa:

Washington: 12,986
Houston: 3,511

Immigration from Asia:

Washington: 19,698
Houston: 12,218

Immigration from Europe:

Washington: 3,070
Houston: 1,643

Immigration from North America (Including Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean):

Houston: 11,802
Washington: 7,338

Immigration from South America:

Washington: 3,955
Houston: 2,434

Top 5 immigration groups for Houston:

Houston:

Total Immigration: 31,738

Mexico: 7,919 - 25%
India: 2,164 - 6.9%
Vietnam: 1,749 - 5.5%
China: 1,606 - 5.1%
Nigeria: 1,460 - 4.6%

Top 5 immigration groups for DC:

Washington:

Total Immigrants: 47,126

India: 3,446 - 7.3%
Ethiopia: 3,196 - 6.8%
El Salvador: 2,892 - 6.1%
China: 2,557 - 5.4%
Philippines: 1,911 - 4.1%

To address Spades point that Houston will catch up to the DMV in Hispanic groups that are unrelated to the largest groups (Mexican in Houston and Salvadoran in DC), the numbers dont show that at all. Look at the recent immigrant growth from 2012.

Houston immigrant growth from Latin America: 14,236
Houston immigrant growth from Mexico: 7,919
Houston immigrant growth from Latin America without Mexico: 6,317

DMV immigrant growth from Latin America: 11,293
DMV immigrant growth from El Salvador: 2,892
DMV immigrant growth from Latin America without El Salvador: 8,401

Im sorry friends, but there is no way around it. The DMV is more multicultural than Houston. Its not a tie, it just is what it is. I say that not to take anything away from Houston because it is a very multicultural city. The DMV is just more so.
