I love being in close proximity to the beach and only a 15-20 minute drive away to some of the best mountains and hiking trails in any city while being a bus and train ride away from my favorite sports teams. NYC nor Chicago can come close to matching that.
Yes it's all subjective which was my initial point. Some people might think Idaho is the greatest state on earth, to each their own.

Nonsense, Chicago is definitely more diverse ethnically as far as Italians, polish, jews, assyrians, Puerto Ricans, jamaicans ect. just as NYC is more diverse than Chicago ethnically. The further west you travel the less ethnically diverse it is, sorry just a geographical fact.

If you are speaking strictly about European immigrants, than yes - there is less "diversity" the further you move west. But that is a huge qualifier. Do you honestly think there are more Asians in Chicago than in LA? Or even SF for that matter?

I'm sure Chicago has decent diversity. After all its a massive city and the regional capital of the Midwest. But lets face it, it doesn't even crack the top 10 most diverse cities, and meanwhile LA is #1.

Chicago has no argument over Los Angeles on the topic of diversity. Even if you remove Mexicans from the equation (and you know EC posters love to do that), Los Angeles still has a much larger population of foreign born residents. It has a larger population of foreign born from every continent minus Europe.

Los Angeles stays remarkably diverse throughout its metro and CSA, whereas Chicago becomes increasingly white the further you get from Cook County.
