Los Angeles is actually a pretty nice looking city. Just because it doesn't have a massive amount of high rises doesn't mean it doesn't look good.
Yeah but it does have a ton of high rises. They are just scattered all over the city. It's pretty cool from the hillsides to see a dozen skylines, cut it doesn't make for a single jaw dropping skyline like Chicago's.

I see what you guys are doing...trying to pay respects and compliments to each others' cities. How nice.
I spend way too much time reading "city data forum" a website full of people who live in a bubble and have no idea of what they are talking about. Chicago looking like whatever ??? Trip advisor, and multiple sources have it as one of the world's most beautiful cities and the 18th top destination in the world. Take a drive and see Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Ave, both magnificent accomplishments to what engineers can accomplish. All the talk on this forum about Chicago losing a spot to Houston or whatever the latest city on this forum is is also ridiculous; Mike Royko, the beloved Chicago Tribune columnist said it best when Los Angeles surpassed Chicago in population, " What would you rather have ( referring to size) a diamond or a large buffalo chip? Boston, SF and Chicago will always be diamonds; Houston, LA and whatever sprawling newcomer will be a buffalo chip with bragging rights as to size.
I would be willing to say that LA has surpassed Chicago as number 2 but all this crap about Houston "Houston is on your doorstep bla bla bla" I don't believe for one second. Its like saying Raleigh is better than Boston because it is growing faster.

It feels the exact opposite in SF Bay Area. Our heads in the stars and looks like we'll be trading places with Chicago sooner than anyone expected.
As for cities like DC, etc they still come across backwater and swampy. Still the best option for #5 but maybe in 20 years can be seen in the light with the big 4 IMO...
I will say my favorite skylines in the country are as follows:
1. Chicago
2. San Francisco
3. New York City
4. Los Angeles
5. Honolulu
6. Miami
7. Seattle
8. Philadelphia

^^the argument over skylines, I am saying I prefer Chicago's to LA's by quite a bit
