In the USA, more than half of all homicide victims are personally known to their murderers. So you can double your chances of not being murdered just by not hanging around with murderers. That is more or less true about every country in the world.

In Mexico, if you are not associated with drug culture in some way, your chance of being murdered is smaller than in the USA. At home, you are careful about where you go and when and who you hang out with -- why wouldn't you be equally careful in Mexico? People in Mexico do not have guns, so there is much less chance that you will be shot unless your are considered a useful target by someone with an illegal gun.

In every place in the world, Mexico, Somalia, San Pedro Sula, your chances of being murdered by a complete stranger who is sober in the daytime in a respectable area are so close to absolute zero, that it is mathematically and statistically idiotic to waste your entire life hiding under your bed out of fear of being murdered.

Farmers are less than 5% of the population I know the state has a lot of farms, but growing up there it's funny everyone assumed the entire population was made up of farmers. Very very few.

Although about 22% of the rural population are into farming. It's actually a huge problem, with the farming population and people living in farm-dependant counties dropping by half since 1980 while the population of metro areas has grown by many hundreds of thousands.

It's pretty bad that the only States with lower murder rate than Canada are Iowa, New Hampshire, and Vermont. And none of those States has a large city.

Population is 106,000 so just above 50 murders. It is a fairly large amount for such a small place.

Flint is even worse as of 2012, with a murder rate around 64.9 murders per 100,000(total number of murders:66).
