I'll be visiting Denver for the first time later this year to visit my old college roommate. Geographically, it seems to be about halfway between Minneapolis and Phoenix. In terms of layout, density, nightlife/entertainment, culture, demographics/ethnic enclaves, economy, politics, and transportation, which city does Denver resemble more closely?

Perhaps Denver more like Dallas or Seattle, but I haven't spent significant time in either city, so that comparison wouldn't mean much to me.

Kind of like neither, in my opinion. I guess a little more like Mpls, but not by too much.

It's uniquely Denver. It's quite different from either city, really.

Based on the criteria OP listed, Denver is closer to Minneapolis.

Denver does have it's own thing going, but culturally it's much closer to Minneapolis. Both are fairly progressive cities.
I say that having lived in MSP over 20 years and Denver 13 yrs.

Bite. Your. Tongue. Denver's closer to Fort Worth than Dallas. Denver has a vibrant, active downtown area with 2 pro sports venues within walking distance of the central core. Dallas's downtown (although it's gotten better) is still largely dead after 5pm.

Out of the two cities you listed I picked Minneapolis even though neither of them is a solid fit.

It has similarities to both, but neither are that close of a match. I'd say it's a mix of both

I've never been to Denver but from what I've seen it seems much closer to Mpls than Phoenix

MPLS is closer in appearance/feel to Denver than Phoenix is.
