One guy owns a bunch of those theaters - I think the Los Angeles, Palace and a few others. I think I read that he wants to restore four of them and I think one or two were intended for musical performances. Seems like it would be a home-run but who knows.
One cool thing that was proposed for DTLA just recently (though it has been tossed around for years) is extending the Red / Purple lines south along the maintenance tracks to the Arts District:
You can see where the Red / Purple lines end there are tracks that run adjacent to the LA River, that is where one or two more stations could go and be built relatively on the cheap.
Downtown Los Angeles definitely has the best transit options of these choices with 3 LRT lines and 2 HRT lines converging there coming from 5 different directions. It will improve even more with the addition of the Regional Connector making those separate LRT lines become a streamlined LRT system.
I stayed in DTLA recently and gotta say there is some exciting stuff going on there. I look forward to the day I can take Amtrak from San Diego to LA and take either the subway or LRT to Santa Monica and points beyond

Next year the Expo Line that currently goes from DTLA to Culver City will extend to Santa Monica. This will definately be a game changer. Finally a straight shot from downtown to the beach. I can't wait.
I can't imagine how great it's gonna be for Angelenos and tourists to go from Downtown to SM. The buses are just packed with people between these places.
Nice Pics Pwight! Seattle does have the nicest DT out of all the options. If DTLA could clean up like Seattle, then DTLA will be the best one hands down.
Los Angeles has a downtown? I lived there for two years and never went there.
Tough call for me between Denver and Seattle, which are the last two cities I took vacations in. I liked both a lot, but have to give Seattle the edge due to its waterfront area. But Denver is better than people give it credit for. Nice people, attractive women, and fun bars.
I've never been to SLC or Portland, though I would really like to finally see Utah.
