Atlanta as a city may be similar to DC as a city, but the two metro areas are completely different.
The Atlanta suburbs are more Republican leaning. But that will change soon. Gwinnett had a 10 point swing in 8 years. Cobb had a 6 point swing. Rockdale had the most dramatic swing of all. Kerry lost the county 39-60 in 2004. In 2012, Obama won Rockdale County 58-41. Henry County had a 15 point swing between 2004 and 2012. Given the growth in Henry, it will likely vote Republican when (not if) Hillary runs in 2016.
And the Atlanta suburbs are changing for the same exact reasons the DC suburbs changed. They've had a large influx of transplants along with a lot of immigration from Latin America, Asia and Africa. It wasn't that long ago that Atlanta didn't have much of an African population. Now it's right on DC's heels (150K vs. 210K). In just a few short years, Atlanta's West Indian population exploded past Atlanta's (160K vs. 63K), and that trend is going to continue.
Hip Hop artist from the city use it Fat Trel, Wale(if you count him) and even Shy Glizzy using now.
