You could say the same thing about Houston though... but they are both so far different I'm not sure why the original comparison was made...
You can't say the same thing as Houston. We've all seen the infamous picture of Houston in the 70s in which it is like 90 percent parking lots with a few towers. Los Angeles never got to that point.
And even if you did say the same thing about Houston, that wouldn't make my initial statement incorrect would it?
But whatever, sorry I "attacked" your precious Loop by saying DTLA is like an inferior version of it. The gall!

I get it, just not sure why the comparison is drawn if you have to throw in so many exceptions. I think there *are* some quite similar areas of LA and Chicago in the neighborhoods but DT's just don't feel or look similar to me.

In your experience what does Downtown LA look like? What downtown does it feel like?
And I guess I am interested to hear what downtowns you find to be like a smaller version of the Loop.

Or you could just take it from a mod in the L.A. forum.

BTW munchitup, I think your comparison of DTLA and the loop are way off, I didn't think Chicago's pedestrian activity was all that more than LA's, but it did seem more cleaned up, cohesive, much bigger, taller, upscale etc.

Fair enough, but I'm pretty sure I said all of those things. And I definitely don't think the Loop is the closest comparison to DTLA, not at all there are lower-tiered downtowns I think are closer matches. I just don't think the difference is night and day and saw some similarities. Not a ton, just some similarities.
