What are the best cities for finding political canvassing work, both in terms of wages and year long availability?

I live in Syracuse, but am willing to explore new cities. I've always done well enough at political canvassing to make money when jobs show up here, but Syracuse only sees action during the last few weeks of an election season.

Outside of one environmental campaign that only pays on a commission basis, that is.

New Hampshire and Iowa are probably a good start. Places like Manchester, Nashua, and Portsmouth could work. It really depends on what your target is though in terms of political groups. Some may probably recommend the Political and OC forum. After a stint there myself, I wouldn't touch that forum with a ten foot pole.

A lot of the ESF kids I knew in 'Cuse ended up working in DC.

Capitals of large, environmentally sensitive states might work well too (Sacramento, Austin, Albany, Columbus, Tallahassee).

Haha! I visit there frequently but it's pretty much the same running arguments every time.

Thanks for the info.

Generally, I prefer canvassing for candidates rather than causes. The environmental canvasses seem to be commission based, which stresses me out of fear that I won't make enough to tide me over from payday to payday.

Yeah, many people in NH are very set in their ways.

There are no "best" cities for political canvassing. Your pay (if you're that lucky) will depend on the financial resources of the campaign. Even if you do get paid, it won't be much. The reward for that type of work is access, not money.
