You cannot compare the conservatives in Canada to the GOP. The conservatives in Canada are more or less the American Democratic party.

Remember Canada has an immigration system based on merit rather than on family connections/chain migration, while California liberals and the Democrats there support chain migration and unrestricted immigration regardless of what the economy needs. (btw Europe is also far less liberal on immigration).

Both Canada and California have a high level of political correctness and California is like Canada in believing in the salad bowl vs the melting pot, where immigrants are not encouraged to assimilate and adopt American culture but should live the way they lived in the old country. (that's how you end up with Quebec being authentic French outside France and Victoria being as British as London, if not more so since London is now overrun with Muslims and Eastern Europeans.) Most Californians do believe in "free" health care, wide open borders, unrestricted abortion, etc.

The conservatives in California are more or less the Democratic party in the rest of the US. Many Californians actually think Hillary is a conservative

And the soon-to-be premier would fit right in with Trump's GOP.

So much for Ontario being a left-wing bastion.
Well we will soon have an answer as to who wins. It is going to be interesting.

I think you've misunderstood the Canadian Mosaic. Immigrants are certainly encouraged to assimilate into Canadian culture. What is emphasized is that they keep their cultural traditions as well, to add another layer into the mix.

The Mosaic and Melting Pot ideas, are basically the same. Immigrant groups naturally do what they do. The only slight difference may be in Canada, that the part about keeping your culture is vocalized more and multiculturalism is an official policy.

This is not how Quebec ended up being Quebec. France and England were the two founding nations of Canada.

Victoria is not as British as London. That's tourism marketing, playing up on Victoria's history and the name of the city and being in BRITISH Columbia certainly adds to that. It may appear British to Americans, especially those who haven't been to the UK. The Queen on the money, The Royal this and that, the tea shops etc.

To someone from the UK, it's Disneyland and are more interested in whale watching.

Quebec to someone from France isn't authentic France. It's Quebec. Different accents and different culture.

Hillary is a moderate .... She could have easily ran as GOP in saner times.

Obama, Biden, Clinton are all Centrist. Trump is right leaning. Cruz is truly right wing and Sanders is truly left wing.

Here in California Hillary has managed to fool everyone into thinking that she is more moderate (even conservative) than she really is. Lots of Californians actually think Hillary is closer to the Republican platform than the Democratic platform.

Have you ever considered that Californians also overplay how conservative the "conservative" parts of California are? Heck, people still think of Orange County as highly conservative when in reality it's now a blue-leaning purple county.

Have you ever considered that even liberal Germany has more euroskeptic, far-right politicians in the AFD (who have actually been elected to significant positions) whereas if they were in California they wouldn't hold a snowball's chance in hell of being elected to the state legislature?
That's because the Bernie Sanders movement tried to pretend Hillary was a conservative. I don't think she holds "conservative" viewpoints on any issues.

True libertarians believe in absolutely zero gun control, extremely low taxes, zero foreign intervention, legal and untaxed drugs (including cocaine and heroin) etc., are you sure libertarian is the right word to describe Canada's conservatives?

That's a pretty broad generalization of Libertarians. Most support decriminalizing drugs but not fully legalizing all of them. Most don't want strict gun control but some are ok with making it slightly harder to buy guns (more background checks) Where did you get the foreign investment thing from? Never heard any Libertarian say that.
