I'd say that Boston and DC are overrated (still great cities though) and NYC is overrated about some things but not all (it's still the greatest American city).

For underrated I'm going to go with Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis/St. Paul

Overrated = NYC (by far, imo)

Underrated = Providence, Portland (ME), Milwaukee, and the Ohio cities.

Going to be funny to see particular poster that won't comment on the overrated part or just won't comment at all, but happy to comment in the Southern thread.

Overrated: Boston
Underrated: Philly

Overrated: probably Boston and NYC. People oversold it. When I got there I was a little let down.
Underrated: Philly. I see a lot of Philly hate, and I'm not sure why.

Overrated: CHICago. Some people can't separate Chicago from crime and weather reports. Both are overrated. Granted, there are some folk that can't stand the cold (cough, cough, wimps, cough, cough).

Underrated: chicAGO. Some people miss out on a wonderful city because of the crime reports, the reputation of the city (corrupt, violent, mobsters, gangs), and perhaps its geographic location. No, it's not NYC. Doing NYC isn't equal to doing Chicago and vice versa.

I can't wait to take my children back to visit. They were too young in 2012. My two youngest whined about all of the walking that we did. However, they enjoy looking at the pictures that we took.

KCMO has always been and St. Louis has become very underrated. Minneapolis gets a ton of attention on here but in the real world nobody outside the Upper Midwest knows ANYTHING about it and all you ever hear people say is that it's small and cold all the time.

Who rates Hartford highly? I'd say that it's a pretty mediocre city that is seen as such.
